He writes: "The MFO is ... a peacekeeping mission that the US Army has been doing in Egypt, particularly the Sinai Penn. for I think the last 20 or so years. Our mission is to report and observe military traffic in this area. The mission came about from the peace treaty that was signed between Israel and Egypt. As far as the location of the pipes they are unique to the sites we occupy, there are about 6 at this location ... and maybe 4 or 5 at the remote sites. The pipe protrudes about 3 feet from the ground, about waist high, and has a six inch diameter opening covered with wire mesh screen. ... The one in the picture is located at our outdoor amphitheater and about 50 yards from the Red Sea."
