Nicknamed the "Emerald Necklace" the Forest Preserve Project of Cook County was one of the earliest examples of urban park planning starting as a project between 1869 to 1890. If you look at a satellite map of Chicago these days you can see why this forest preserve system earned this so called title. This preserve is located right in what could be the middle of the "pendant" of the "necklace." This photo is from the inside of the nature center where several animals native to the forests of this area are shown."
