The Schwebebahn is a world-famous upside-down monorail system that has been serving the town of Wuppertal for over a 100 years. The uniquely-constructed monorail system moves about 20 million passengers a year. A large portion of the elevated right-of-way for the system has been built over the river that runs through the town, which keeps the overhead structure off of the city streets.
