" The first Pollo Tropical opened in November 1988, in Miami. The chain has over 70 company-owned restaurants in Florida and more than 20 franchised units throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, including over 10 in Puerto Rico. The company has expanded restaurants into the New York City market, with a location in the Brooklyn borough of the city, as well as Woodbridge, North Bergen and Clifton in New Jersey. The restaurants are best known for its marinated and grilled chicken served with black beans and rice. Some common side dishes are french fries, salads, plantain, and fried yuca. For a time, some locations in Central Florida were branded "TropiGrill" but these have since been renamed Pollo Tropical."
