The Urinals of Millennium Park

Millennium Park has recently been opened in downtown Chicago, IL. These pictures were taken during the park's opening weekend in July 2004.

"Millennium Park replaces 23 acres of ugliness that for decades was home to a vacant rail yard and a surface parking lot. The park sits above a new parking garage and two commuter train stations. Strolling through the tree-lined gardens, you'd never dream all that activity was going on just 30 feet below...At its center is an outdoor concert hall designed by the world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, whose credits include Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum, and Los Angeles' Disney Concert Hall. The bandshell, a confection of Gehry's trademark stainless steel metal shells, has been paired with an outdoor pavilion with seating for 11 000. Speakers strung from an overhead trellis are designed to simulate the quality of sound that an indoor music venue would offer, providing state-of-the art sound."Cloud Gate," a jelly bean-shaped 110-ton stainless steel sculpture by the Anglo-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor is still under construction, but will reflect, literally, the surrounding cityscape when it is completed.Then there's the Lurie Garden, which was designed by a team led by Kathryn Gustafson, the US landscape artist who created the Hyde Park water memorial to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.A towering waterfall installation by Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa, an outdoor performance theatre, ice-rink and restaurant complete the list of attractions and amenities."
