It's La Serena's plushest hotel, situated in an old Colonial building, close to the town's Plaza de Armas. La Serena is Chile's second oldest city, founded in 1544, and has a history of being sieged by pirates, including Sir Francis Drake. It is not known if Sir Drake stayed at the Hotel Francisco de Aguirre during his plunders."
