According to the website of the City of Bakersfield: "The city's first soccer complex, Bakersfield Sports Village Phase I, officially opened on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. The ribbon cutting ceremony included a program of noteworthy speakers and City officials in attendance. Dianne Hoover, the director of the Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Department welcomed the guests to the new complex and provided the crowd with an overview of the complex. Phase I consists of the first eight lighted soccer fields, with eight more being developed."
