Austin-Bergstrom was built on the site of the Bergstrom Air Force Base, which was closed by an act of Congress in 1990 after 50 years of service. Passenger operations at Austin-Bergstrom commenced in May of 1999 with the opening of the Barbara Jordan Terminal, where this photo was taken.
